La Cueva de los Abuelos

Description

This quirky cave house is located in rural Murcia province Spain. It is classed as the commune of La Zarza, although in reality is on its own with the exception of a row of other neighboring cave houses that originally belonged and some still belong to the original family. Some are permanent residences and some are holiday homes (weekend) only. The cave has, within its main building, two bedrooms, that would sleep five across three beds if needed (two doubles and a single). There is also a sitting room, dining room inside and a kitchen inside (although mind your head!) The cave construction ensures that the interior remains comparatively cool in the hot summer months. In the cooler months, there is a large open fireplace in the sitting room that can be used. There is no other heating in the property. It is important to note that the toilet and shower facilities are located in a small building directly opposite the front of the property. The shower is a pump shower and so in some respects mirrors camping/ asian style bathing albeit you are sleeping in a constructed building. The surrounding area is rugged and scenically stunning, with uninterrupted sunrise and sunset views from the roof of the cave where you can sit and relax. There is an outdoor barbecue area overlooking the Almond Grove and indoor gas stove for cooking. All cooking utensils, pots and pans and crockery are provided. You just need to take your own towels. There is a fridge and a washing machine in the kitchen.
